Proper Insulation - Shadows & Light
Airflow in the Attic
We all know that hot air rises, but did you know that the temperature in your attic can climb up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer? This puts a huge strain on your air conditioner. It can also be a potential health hazard. A properly ventilated attic can save you money and prevent dangerous situations.
Too much heat can not only feel uncomfortable, but promote the growth of mold or other bacterial invasions that require a warm, moist environment to grow and thrive. Attic space permitting air flow can increase your home’s comfort level by preventing moisture buildup and promoting air exchange during temperature extremes outdoors.
Proper ventilation in your house can reduce the level of toxic emissions or fumes. It can also keep everyone from getting sick as often or passing around the current flu bug, since circulating air can make it difficult for germs to grow. Check out your attic to make sure there is good cross ventilation and that your current ventilation system is working properly. Then decide whether this would be a good time to consider adding soffit vents for increased airflow.
It is important that your home’s attic have a venting system to help bleed off the heat and humidity in the attic during the summer months, and moist stagnant air during the winter months. The heat of the summer, if left in the attic, will counterbalance the effort of the air conditioning system on the upper level, and can cause structural damage to the home.
