Proper Insulation - Shadows & Light

Are dollar bills flying out of your attic? If it is not properly insulated, they could be! There is an easy way to discover if you have areas that energy dollars can escape through. Choose a bright sunny day. Arm yourself with a good, reliable flashlight and head up to the attic. Taking precautions and using the flashlight to make sure you’re stepping on sturdily floored or beamed sections, turn off the attic light. Look for any sunlight showing through corners, seams, ceiling joists or sloping walls. If you can see any light at all, you probably need to repair these areas or add more insulation. Now turn the lights back on and look for any water stains on the attic ceiling. If you find them, you may need a new roof.
