What can you expect to spend on your bathroom remodel?
Before you start your remodel, you need to set your budget. If you choose to do-it-yourself, you can save a lot in labor costs. However, if you don’t have much experience, here are some costs you can expect to incur:
Cabinetry
For low end, paint grade unfinished cabinets, you can spend an average of $75 per linear foot, to the upper end of $250 per linear foot. Be sure to add in an additional $100 per foot for finishing. See the experts at Designer Kitchen & Bath for help with cabinetry or replacing your old vanity with a standard model, furniture style or contemporary design vanity.
Plumbing
The average price of your plumbing depends on how much you have to do. Do you need to move the toilet, bath or shower from their existing locations or plan to simply install new fixtures? If major plumbing changes are in your plans you can spend an average of $2,600. If you are just swapping out fixtures, the average is $600. Adding a Jacuzzi tub can add at least $1,000 to your budget.
Mirrors
Depending on whether you want standard size mirrors with no framing, custom-cut mirrors from a glass shop or decorative mirrors that match your new décor, allocate $200 to $500 for mirrors.
Electrical & Lighting
Simply changing out your light fixtures will cost you an average of $100 and up. If you’re changing out the entire layout of your fixtures, adding recessed lighting and/or installing exhaust fans, plan on spending $1,500 or more.
Flooring
Average floor labor costs between $4 and $6 per square foot on average. The material can cost you between $2 and $20 per square foot. Most bathrooms have tiled floor, but wood, vinyl and concrete are also options. When choosing your flooring, the experts at Designer Kitchen & Bath can work with you during the selection process.
Shower
To save money, keep it simple and order an average one-piece surround shower. This will cost you approximately $400. If you want a tile shower, the averages will be between $2 and $20 per square foot for materials. Remember, the fancier the shower, the more you’ll have to spend. These averages do not include labor.
Paint/Drywall
For simple textured walls, plan on an average budget of $600 (depending on the size of your bathroom.) A plaster or artistic finish can cost up to $2,500! If all you need is some colorful paint, budget $50 to $100 plus labor.
Countertops
Natural stone like marble or granite is gorgeous but can cost you an average of $65 per square foot; this includes materials, fabrication and installation. A prefabricated cultured marble top with an integrated sink can cost $100 or more. Check in with the pros at Solid Choice Fabrication for an array of countertops to choose from.
Accessories
Towel bars, toilet paper holders, and hooks are among the accessories you’ll need to finish out your new bathroom. An initial budget amount is $200 to $600 depending on the finish you’ve chosen. Simple chrome fixtures are at the lower end of the budget spectrum while oil-rubbed bronze is considered higher-end.
